You would be pleased to know that the Singapore-Suzhou Club is affiliated to the Suzhou Singapore Club in Suzhou.
All life members of the Suzhou Singapore Club are extended Singapore-Suzhou Club membership privileges when they are back in Singapore for business or social visits. Similarly, members of the Singapore-Suzhou Club can also tap into the wide network of the Suzhou Singapore Club when they are in Suzhou.
Established in Suzhou in 1994, the Suzhou Singapore Club was mooted by Singaporeans posted to work in the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) by CSSD, the joint-venture developer of SIP. It started as a social club to forge a community spirit amongst Singaporeans working in Suzhou as well as to help newcomers settle down in Suzhou.
Today, the Suzhou Singapore Club has further developed into a Business cum Social Club for Singaporeans to collaborate with each other and to compete as an integrated community rather than as individual entities. Its membership has also grown significantly beyond CSSD Singapore staff. With more foreign invested companies settling down in SIP and expanding their businesses, the number of Singaporeans and expats in Suzhou have also grown.
As at March 2002, the Suzhou Singapore Club has almost 400 "life" members of which about 185 members are still residing and working in either SIP and/or Suzhou New District or Suzhou Old City.
