Singapore - Suzhou Club: deepening friendship and links between Singapore and Suzhou.
With fond memories of Suzhou and Suzhou friends, a group of Singaporeans who have worked in Suzhou decided to come together to form the Singapore - Suzhou Club (SSC). Our Chief Patron, PM Lee Hsien Loong who praised the initiative of these Singaporeans for taking the lead to continue their links with Suzhou, officiated the launch of the Club together with Suzhou Party Secretary Dr Chen Deming on 16 Jan 2002. At the launch PM Lee described Singapore-Suzhou ties as 'a special relationship' and the SIP today as a tangible symbol of the close cooperation between China and Singapore.
Suzhou Party Secretary Dr Chen Deming was particularly happy that the launch coincided with his official visit to Singapore to say "thank you" to our political leaders, SIP pioneers and all those who have contributed to the development of the SIP project. The presence of the Suzhou party chief demonstrated the desire of the Suzhou government that the economic cooperation between the two peoples be further deepened and strengthened.
The establishment of SSC indeed symbolizes the close cooperation and deep friendship between Singapore and Suzhou.
The SSC's Management Committee is headed by Mr Khor Poh Hwa, assisted by a 17-member Committee which will plan and organize various activities for our members. Mr Khor hoped that with the establishment of SSC and the many activities to be organized, the already strong relationship and friendship could be further enhanced.
